Gmail - A tip on quick 'delete'!

The most time-consuming thing about cleaning my mailbox is deleting unwanted mails. Whenever I open my gmail account, I find many commerical or spam mails in my Inbox. Yes, there is 'Delete all spam mails now' link in Spam but what about Inbox? I used to find it very boring to check the box on each mail and finally delete them, until I found a quick-fix today! Many of you might find it too obvious or ignore my post saying "Ahhh......she must be a rookie with emails!", but I'm sure there are some who would find it really helpful.
Suppose you have 10 mails lined up one below the other and you want to delete all of them. Instead on clicking the checkbox next to each mail;
1) Click on checkbox of 1st mail
2) Click on checkbox of 10th mail by holding down 'Shift' button
There you go.....all 10 mails are selected at once and now press 'Delete'. yes....its that easy!!! But dont know if this works with other mail services coz I tried the same on 'Yahoo mail', but it didn't work.
Are you thinking "omg! didn't you know this simple thing????"
oh yeah...I warned you :)
